As we count the days to the big day, let me tell you about Chef Jasper and Darlene’s love story, and the “like” that started it all!
My brother met Darlene four years ago at a bible study group in church. Both of them were part of the Young Professionals group; she was based in Makati, and he was based in Ortigas.
Darlene, a kind and gentle woman with the loveliest smile, worked as a nurse at the Cardinal Santos Medical Center; Jasper was busy running the family catering business as our executive chef.
They met again a few times over the course of four years, but they hardly talked to each other. Jasper said he already had his eyes on Darlene back then, but it was only until that fateful Facebook “like” four years later when Chef Jasper and Darlene’s love story began to take its shape.
“When the Lord closes a door, he opens a window,” Jasper heard at the Bible study group. Relating it to a recent experience, he posted it as a status message on Facebook. Darlene chanced upon the quote on her news feed and “liked” it immediately.
Jasper didn’t recognize her name at first. “Kilala mo ba ‘tong si Darlene Pendon?”, he asked me. I thought her name sounded familiar. As we set out to investigate her profile, he realized it was the Darlene he had been seeing at the Bible study group. Charmed by her pictures, he began exchanging messages with her on Facebook.
Several friendly online exchanges later, Jasper finally asked her out. After going on several dates and attending bible study sessions together, they officially became a couple. And in only a matter of five months, Jasper realized he wanted to spend the rest of his life with Darlene.
True enough, the Lord closed the door on their life as strangers, and opened a window to their wonderful romance.
