Matching Food with Wine

Are Filipinos wine drinkers? What do Filipinos normally drink during special occasions?

I have observed that Filipinos still prefer to drink “hard drinks” like cognac, scotch, gin and vodka during celebrations. However, there is a growing number of wine drinkers in the country.

Matching food with wine is both an art and a science. I begin with the food selection and an understanding of its components and flavors, then I “marry” the food with a specific wine to bring out the taste of the dish. I consider the flavor of both the wine and food in order to create a specific taste experience.

The fundamental rule when matching food with wine is “light food go with light wines, and heavy food with heavy wine.” For example, I would pair a Filet of Sole in butter sauce with a Sauvignon Blanc. The crisp acidic wine balances the buttery flavor.

A Merlot wine pairs best with steak, pasta, red meat, duck or grilled food. A Chardonnay with grilled chicken or fish or any dish with cream sauce.

When you pair your meal with the right wine, it creates a combination that celebrates and enhances your dining experience.

Totally gastronomic topic, I’m not really into wine pairing but a few
info would not hurt, I do take a glass of red wine during cocktails and
    Italian champagne on special occasions.

I am not so adept with food and wine pairing so probably I can seek the help of the Chef himself. You have good suggestions as well.

I don’t drink alcoholic drinks but sometimes I’m curious how wine complements the taste of the food being served.

Thanks for the tip, I personally do not know how to pair wine with food but I think as I grow old, I should learn how to.
I’m still into drinking alcoholic ones and sooner, I might learn to appreciate wine. =)

I prefer wine over hard drinks and beers.  It’s also healthier than other alcohol.

I’ve only tasted white wine once, and a few red wine selections — but I still never like what I taste right after. :( I’m more of a hard-drink kind of gal. But I wouldn’t mind trying a few other wine selections if given the right recommendations. :)

I find this helpful because I am not a “drinker” even wine except red wine hehe. I really can’t understand why many Filipinos love drinking hard drinks the fact that the taste isn’t really good.

Thanks for the tip! even a as simple as a cube of cheese when paired with the perfect wine makes for an exquisite meal.

A bottle of beer would be just fine with me though wine is also good for my taste. XD

I’m beginning to enjoy food with wine.. :) So far I’ve loved the combination of seafood + Sauvignon Blanc. I haven’t started getting into steaks + red wines though. But in time, I’ll get there :)
